- Read the bank service agreements. Get familiar with it so that you can refer back to it if needed.
- When doing business transactions on the phone with your bank, be sure to ask the name of the representative, and take note of it. You may need this if any discrepancies comes up.
- When you receive your bank statements each month, be sure to go over it thoroughly. Look for any suspicious activities on your statements, and if any is found, address it immediately.
- When you are writing a check, draw a line after the amount payable, and draw an X at the end. This will stop a con artist from increasing the amount of the check, if it is stolen.
- If you decide to throw your bank statements and other banking information in the garbage, always shred them first. Some shredders are not effective in shredding sensitive information, so be sure to invest in a good shredder that will mince all the information.
- Keep your Debit Card PIN (Personal Identification Number) safe. Don't write down your PIN in obvious places, such as, on papers inside of your purse or on the card.
