Some of these guys do simply do it because they can or to prove they can.

Some get a kick out of the havoc they cause. Or use malicious programs to take over your computer to steal personal info: passwords, credit card numbers, etc.

And sometimes these creeps are actually doing their jobs. Spyware and adware among other things are real pains in the @$$, but they often serve a purpose - unsavory as it may seem. They monitor your computer usage to pin down your interests and habits so they can customize the marketing ploys they use on you.


There are probably as many reasons as there are hackers. Why does anyone do illegal and/or destructive things?
